Welcome to "StockBreakthroughs Newsletter"
In this issue... The SEC Warns Online Investors Of ID-Theft Risks. Here's an important notification from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for all online investors that I have to share with you. The following just came in my inbox: The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission urged online investors to take precautions to protect their accounts Thursday, Nov. 2, saying it knows of "numerous" cases of unauthorized access in recent months. "We are concerned that many investors aren't taking appropriate precautions when accessing their online brokerage accounts," SEC Investor Education Director Susan Wyderko said in a press release. "In our guide, we offer tips on how online investors can protect their personal information from intruders." Identity thieves are now more frequently targeting online brokerage accounts by using software programs tracking users' keyboard inputs, known as key logging, to steal passwords and then transfer funds to a different account. The SEC recommended that online users employ one or more of several defenses against the thieves, including a personal firewall and security software package and using a security token. The agency also advised investors to ignore e-mails requesting confidential or sensitive information. Read the SEC's new guide "Online Brokerage Accounts: What You Can Do to Safeguard Your Money and Your Personal Information" at: http://www.sec.gov/investor/pubs/onlinebrokerage.htm I also recommend to read the article the SEC has on "Phishing"! There's a link on the same page. For other SEC information and publications please visit http://www.sec.gov
